"Where There's A Will, There's An A" --- A Final Note

In our third issue of "Great Education Moves" (August, 1989), we discussed the audio and video cassette program called "Where There's A Will, There's An 'A'." As you can imagine, these tapes have become increasingly more popular over the last couple of years. In fact, several school systems have purchased these tapes and are using them with entire classes of children in the hope, of course, of improving children's grades. Now, what do you think is going to happen in these school systems if these tapes actually work on the majority of children? What do you think is going to happen if lots of children start getting lots of "A's"? Do you think educators, the bell-curve specialists are going to let large numbers of children succeed academically? Or, do you think that the bell-curve specialists will alter their expectations of children and increase students' workload in order to make it more difficult for their students to get "A's"?

The designers and promoters of "Where There's A Will, There's An 'A"' do not realize that this educational system was designed to cause children to fail. Nothing has interrupted or altered this process since the inception of compulsory education. We said before and we will say it again, where there's a Will, there may be an "A", but someone is going to pay. So while some children may find that they are able to improve academically through the use of these tapes, we doubt that the bell-curve specialists are going to let large numbers of students improve academically. We are guessing that students who use these tapes are going to pay fairly immediately with increased teacher expectations and increased student workload.

We are not against the use of these tapes. We realize that, as the promoters of these tapes remind us, "grades are everything." We think that parents who have chosen to send their children into the current school system should take advantage of any tapes, tools or devices that will help make it easier for their children to survive in school. We think that anything that will make the onslaught and the personal destruction caused by current educational practices easier for a child to bear should be utilized to the fullest. After all, children are going to be mentally, emotionally and spiritually hacked to death in school. It is much kinder to hack children who have been anesthetized and are unconscious than it is to do it while they are fully awake.

Finally, we must remind readers that we are in no way trying with our newsletters to appeal to parents who have already decided to send their children to school. We are only trying to reach certain homebirthers and others who feel the urgency for a natural and healthy family life. We are trying to reach those parents who have a severe urgency to rear healthy, natural, functional children into adulthood and who cannot bear to allow their children to be turned into the brain-dead, corrupted garbage that comes out of our state-run schools.
