This conference is open to all homeschoolers, prospective homeschoolers, and anyone interested in participating, whether they are HSLDA members or not.
Carole Cardinal has been working with Home School Legal Defence Association for more than ten years, initially serving as a volunteer liaison between HSLDA and its French membership in Québec, as well as in other provinces. Since then, she has been asked to be part of HSLDA's staff as the Québec Law Clerk, overseeing the Québec files and situations that arise, discussing strategies with Paul Faris, attorney for HSLDA, as well as the Québec lawyers whose services are retained on behalf of HSLDA members in our province. Carole and her husband Michel also currently serve on the Association of Christian Parent-Educators' Board of Directors. They make their home in the heart of Québec City and are the homeschooling parents of five children, two of whom have finished high school at home and gone on to higher education.
Carole will be coming to our area to discuss the current situation in Québec, and how we, as homeschoolers, can be better prepared in defending our right to home educate our children. Among the topics to be discussed are:
- What the Education Act says about homeschooling... and what it doesn't;
- Current Ministry of Education policy and its application in various school boards across Québec;
- School board requirements and contracts;
- Youth Protection Law as it applies - or not - to home education;
- Admission to postsecondary.
Ample time will be open for questions.
April 9th, 2011
(lecture from approx.10-11:30AM, question period thereafter)
Chelsea Community Center, 220 chemin Old Chelsea, Chelsea, Quebec
Room "B", Main Floor
*A free-will donation will be greatly appreciated to cover the costs of travelling and rental of facilities.
REGISTRATION MUST BE CONFIRMED by email email@example.com (conference requires a minimum of 12 participants to run) and in order to prepare enough handouts, as well as facilitate set-up.
*Please note that childcare will not be available on site and, due to space limitations(room maximum), we recommend you find alternate care for your older children. However, nursing babies and toddlers who need to be with their moms are welcome and we trust parents to take appropriate action to keep the noise level at a minimum.
My family is very happy to help organize this conference, as our homeschooling experience has been temporarily disturbed by the current situation in Quebec, and we wish to help inform and reassure all home learners.
***Please send this to all your homeschooling contacts, word of mouth is our only form of advertising for the event.***
